The original setting of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” becomes a modern-day shopping center with a 1920s swing in Contemporary Ballet Dallas’ interpretation of the tale.
The ballet company also adds jazz, a little disco, contemporary music by Harry Connick Jr., ColdPlay, and Linkin Park, throws in modern dance, and takes Ebenezer Scrooge on his journeys with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future in its production of “Boogie Woogie Christmas Carol.”
The show plays at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 5, at McFarlin Auditorium on the SMU campus. Tickets range from $12-$18.
Guest artist Omar Angeles plays the role of Scrooge, Jorge Fuentes returns from New York to portray Bob Cratchit, and modern dance troupe DekaDance performs to “Dreamweavers” before Scrooge receives his spectral visitors.
Dallas Swing Dance Society’s Elaine Hewlitt and Don West restage a vintage 1920s swing number, “The Big Apple.” Valerie Shelton-Tabor serves as artistic director.
